ABOUT
Tim was a premature baby born in Hong Kong. He remembered during the early primary school years, he sprained his ankles very often because of leg weaknesses.
Everytime, his mom carried him to the same Tie Da (bone setting or chinese orthopedic manual therapy) Master. Master Ho liked poking fun at him, while applying medicinal oil and manipulating here and there around his ankles. Finally with a blow of air from his mouth, Master Ho waved his hands, “You are all set, Boy!” “Wow, this is magic!” Tim didn’t feel any pain which was supposed to be scary during treatment!
These early experiences sowed seeds deep inside him. Later, Tim managed to learn some fragmented techniques here and there from Master Ho for some short periods of time.
Tim loved massage a lot. While in a Singaporean multinational as a General Manager, he took every opportunity possible to get a massage to relieve pain and stress from his busy work schedule.
After setting foot on this great land of opportunity in 2003, Tim decided to pursue a career which should be tremendously beneficial to a healthy life after an incapacitated middle-aged crisis.
He went to different cities all over the US to attend various classes and trainings:
- Swedish Massage
- Acupressure
- Trigger Point Therapy
- Myofascial Release
- Deep Tissue Massage
- Neuromuscular Therapy
- Baldwin Techniques
- Active Release Technique
- European Medical Massage
- Neurostructural Integration Technique
- Fascial Manipulation
- Reflexology
- Strength Training and Conditioning
From the very beginning, Tim noticed that massage should be much more than just for relaxation and stress release. He was so obsessed with applying different techniques to solve real-life pain and health issues. Working overtime for a client was normal even his partner kept complaining. Six to seven hours a day was just on average, he had a record of working eleven and a half hours, straightly using finger pressure!
Eventually he was injured. Suddenly Tim noticed that numbness and pain started in the right thumb all the way up to the shoulder and neck, he was losing control of his most valuable asset. He backed down.
From 2014, he started working as a contract Medical Interpreter and became the Preferred Mandarin Interpreter in MD Anderson Cancer Center. During the years working in the best cancer center, Tim considered very fortunate to have excellent opportunities to learn about how medical services are administered by some of the best scientists and physicians in the world.
He needs to interpret in nearly all sorts of scenarios, whether it is a pulmonary test, gamma knife radiation therapy, lumbar puncture, stem cell apheresis or pericardial effusion drainage.
He was thrilled by the sophistication and precision of each procedure and at the same time, familiarized with what we actually mean by professional practices to the highest standards. Areas such as:
- Patient’s Safety
- Risks vs Benefits
- Privacy and Confidentiality
- Care and Passion
However, the most difficult moments happened when patients were told that they are “running out of options” for pain control or treatments. In contrast to the “balance” concept that Tim envisions, lots of questions pop up. These questions further strengthens the belief that there are missing pieces in the health puzzle. Tim is now ready and fully confident that he should return working full time as a BAST medical massage practitioner.
